Anchorage, Alaska
Hazard Data Summary
Threat Summary
The hazard level in ZIP code 99599 is critical. The Alaska Cleaners site on West 4th and I Street is a major Superfund location nearby. Many local dry cleaning businesses have leaked hazardous chemicals into the soil and water over the years. These invisible pollutants can travel through the ground and enter your home as dangerous vapors. This means the air you breathe and the water around you could contain toxins that are unsafe for your family and pets.
Action Required
Residents must take immediate steps to assess their home safety and housing rights. Contact the Ahtna Intertribal Resource Commission to learn about local environmental monitoring and community health protections. If you are concerned about the safety of your current residence or need assistance with environmental housing standards, contact the HUD Housing Agency at 1-800-569-4287. They can provide guidance on finding safe, uncontaminated housing. You should also reach out to the Anchorage Audubon Society for information on local soil and water health. Proactive testing and seeking official relocation assistance are the best ways to ensure long-term safety.
